Danilo joins Botafogo; Sels secures new Forest terms

Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo has completed a permanent transfer to Brazilian club Botafogo, signing a four-year contract with his homeland club. The 24-year-old Brazilian international joined Forest from Palmeiras in January 2023 for a reported £16 million transfer fee.
During his time at the City Ground, Danilo made 62 appearances across all competitions, with the majority coming during his first full season with the Premier League side. His 2024-25 campaign was significantly impacted by injury, limiting him to just 13 appearances after suffering a broken ankle in the season opener against Bournemouth.
The club released an official statement: "Everyone at Nottingham Forest thanks Danilo for his contribution while at the club, wishing him the very best for the next stage of his career."
Forest Secures Key Goalkeeper with Improved Deal
In other Nottingham Forest news, goalkeeper Matz Sels has signed an improved contract that extends his stay at the club. The 33-year-old Belgian's new deal maintains his commitment until 2027, with the club now holding an additional 12-month extension option.
Sels enjoyed a standout 2024-25 season, sharing the Premier League Golden Glove with Arsenal's David Raya after keeping 13 clean sheets. His performances were instrumental in Forest securing seventh place and European qualification for the first time since 1996.
"I'm really happy," Sels told club media. "We had an amazing season and I was one small part of that. Hopefully we can continue together and have some great moments again this season. Playing in Europe is really something special that I'm looking forward to."
The former Newcastle and Strasbourg goalkeeper, who joined Forest for £5 million in 2024, has made 58 appearances for the club. He played a key role in their run to the FA Cup semi-finals last season, where they were eventually eliminated by Manchester City.
Club officials praised Sels' contribution: Chief Football Officer Ross Wilson stated, "Matz is an experienced goalkeeper who has been consistently performing at a high level for years. He made a big impact last season and is an important part of our group. This new deal is well deserved."
Sels becomes the latest Forest player to commit his future to the club this year, following new contracts for Chris Wood, Murillo, and Neco Williams.
